Annapolis Weekend - Part 1

Geof and went on a mini-getaway to Annapolis, Maryland for a long weekend. Neither of us had been there before and we were looking forward to it. We left on Thursday to get out before another storm hit at home. It only took about two hours to get to the hotel. We checked in, got settled and headed across the way to the Westfield Mall. It was really nice and we ended up having lunch at Red Robin. It was my first time there and I thought my burger was delicious. We did some window shopping and then had a relaxing night at the hotel. I also got to watch the long program for ladies figure skating at the Olympics. I’ve never seen better skating before in my entire life.

Friday, we headed to downtown Annapolis to explore. I got some great suggestions from Nat on where to go and what to see (thanks, Nat!). We started on Main Street and worked our way down to the bay. I couldn’t believe how quaint, charming and clean everything was. It was so cold and windy, but we still made the best of it. The sailboats were beautiful and I can only imagine what the bay looks like in the summertime. I would love to come back once it gets warmer out. For lunch, we went to McGarvey’s Saloon. We ordered crab balls for an appetizer and they were so good. Lots of crab and just the right seasonings. For lunch, I had a bowl of chili and a mug of Bud Light for $5. It was so good and you can’t beat that price. Geof had seafood gumbo and kept saying how tasty it was.

After lunch, we headed to The Pink Crab (a Lilly Pulitzer store) and it was adorable. I’m more a fan of the accessories than anything else, but it was so fun to look around at everything. One of the ladies that worked there had her dog, Wally in the store and while I shopping he and Geof became good friends. The ladies in this store were as sweet as can be. When I go to the King of Prussia Lilly store, I always feel like an outsider, so this was a good experience. I’m obsessed with scarves and the Murfee is a favorite of mine. I got one in Lilly’s Pink Grandscale Access and also got a plain pink tank top on sale.

I love this photo...Geof and Wally

We headed to a few other shops and boutiques. Everyone was so friendly and some people even said “y’all”. I love that and it just makes me want to live in the south. One of our last stops was Nostalgia Cupcakes and this place did not disappoint. The “Pink Lady” cupcake was so good. We walked around some more and then headed back to the hotel for a nap.

Later, we headed down to Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole. This shopping center is gorgeous and looked brand new. They had a 3-story Target! We went to Anthropologie and looked around and the place I wanted to go, Poppy and Stella was closed. Their tagline is “everything but the clothes” and since I love accessories, this place looked right up my alley. We did go to Brio for dinner and it was tasty (I’ve eaten way too much this weekend thank god our hotel has a gym). We came back to the hotel and relaxed in the hot tub for a bit and then called it a night.

Tasty Tuesday

Last night, I made spaghetti for dinner and we had leftovers. Geof decided to give a spaghetti noodle to the dogs and I swear it was just like this scene from Lady and the Tramp.

Mandy kind of looks like Lady

Okay, onto Tasty Tuesday:

Geof made this Shepherd’s Pie last week and he was very proud of himself. He called me at work and said he was making a surprise for dinner and that it could either be a delicious success or an epic failure. Luckily it was the former. He made it up himself and it was so good.

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 can of cream of chicken soup
1 box of cheesy garlic mashed potatoes
1 can of mix vegetables
½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese

Directions (according to Geof):
1. Brown the meat and add vegetables
2. Make the potatoes according to directions on package
3. Spread the meat/veggie mixture on the bottom of a baking pan and add cheese on top
4. Add potato mixture to top
5. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes

Weekend recap

Friday was very laid back after a hectic week at work. My boss flew in and I was in meetings all week, which left me catching up on work at night. It was nice just to spend a cozy night at home. We watched the Olympics first round of ice dancing. The compulsory dance isn’t all that exciting, but I know that the required elements must completely burn their legs out. I was rooting for Tanith and Ben all the way. So was Geof, but that’s just because he has a huge crush on Tanith. We made a frozen pizza and saddled up on the couch most of the night.

Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto

Saturday, I got to sleep in and it was nice. We went to the gym with our friend Dan later in the evening, but it was closed. We completely forgot that they close early on the weekend, because they’re open 24/7 during the week. Instead, we made a Blockbuster run and then hit Applebee’s for dinner. While we were there Dan’s sister came for dinner with one of her girlfriends. We seem to live in the kind of town where you always bump into someone. After dinner, we came back home and took the dogs for a nice, long, snowy walk. While we were walking, I tripped and fell. Geof thought I was kidding around, but I wasn’t. Thank goodness a huge snow mound broke my fall. I was laughing at myself for the rest of the walk and came home with a skinned knee and bruised ego. I can be such a klutz sometimes.

Sunday, we finally made it to the gym and got in a good workout. I came home and did work and then Geof made us dinner and we watched Couples Retreat. I thought it was really cute, but glad I passed this one up in the theater. One thing I couldn’t get over was how fantastic Kristen Bell and Kristin Davis looked in a bikini. It also made me once again remember how bad I want to go to Tahiti one day. We also watched more ice dancing. I was really bummed that Tanith and Ben are in 4th place. Meryl Davis and Charlie White did skate really well and I give them credit for that. I can’t wait for the free dance tomorrow!

General Mills Retro Cereal/Target/Atari Giveaway

I was contacted by General Mills cereal to do a review and host a giveaway where 5 five winners will be selected to win a prize pack that includes the following:

  • 1 sample each of the Limited Edition boxes of General Mills Big G cereal that includes Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Honey Nut Cheerios, Trix and Lucky Charms
  • 1 Retro-designed T-shirt
  • 1 $10 Target Gift Card

Grand Prize

  • One Grand Prize winner will be selected at the end of the week to win an Atari Game Console with a variety of built-in retro games.

That’s a total of 6 prizes!

Target stores nationwide will carry five limited-edition General Mills cereal boxes featuring fun “Retro” package designs and premium offers from the 60’s and 80’s. Some of you might remember the boxes from when you were a child. General Mills sent me a prize pack and I definitely remembered the original Honey Nut Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch boxes.

Honey Nut Cheerios came out in 1989. I was 10, going on 11 and remember this being a popular cereal in our home. That is also the year that the first Batman movie came out, a gallon of gas was around 97 cents and Barbie turned 30 years old.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch came out in 1985 and I would have been 6, going on 7. This kind of cereal would have been considered a treat in my house, as we mainly had Cheerios. In 1985, the original “We Are The World” was recorded, Ronald Regan took his oath for a second term as the 40th President of the United States and Super Mario Brothers was introduced.

I also remember Atari very well. This was the first game console in my house and I think my Dad loved it more than me. I’ll never forget playing Pac-Man and Pole Position. Those were the true original video games in my opinion!

Target was a growing chain in the 80’s and now it is a household name. In 1989, the retailer expanded into the Southeastern United States and had a total of 399 stores at the time, with $7.51 billion in sales. Imagine what that number must be now. Target is and will probably always be one of my favorite places to shop. I’m also highly impressed with their expansion of grocery offerings. There is almost no need to head to the supermarket any longer.

To enter the giveaway:
1. Mandatory. Please leave a comment telling me your favorite General Mills cereal as a child – 1 entry
2. If you’re already a follower or become a follower that gets you another entry – 1 entry
3. Twitter about this giveaway @ChicnPink for another entry – 1 entry
4. Post about this on your blog for another two entries – 2 entries

That is a total of 5 possible entries and remember that there are also 5 prize packs and 1 Atari prize to be won!

This giveaway is open to residents of the U.S. only and will be open until 11:59pm on Thursday, February 25th. Giveaway winners will be announced on Friday, February 26th. Please contact me at my email address on the sidebar of my blog if you're a winner.

Good luck!

Valentine’s weekend recap – part 2

Saturday, we spent most of the day over at Mohegan Sun. We played some slots, walked around and explored. The casino is really nice and had a ton of great shopping and restaurants. We wanted Mexican for lunch and headed to Sol Toro. It’s owned by Michael Jordan and I was a little worried that it wouldn’t be that great. I was wrong. Everything was served very authentic and I had one of the best margaritas that I have ever tasted. It was perfection. We also tried the queso fundido as an appetizer and each had a burrito for lunch that neither of us could come close to finishing. We were told that we must order a side of guacamole and were glad that we did. They make it fresh and even do it tableside if you order it as an appetizer. We were pretty stuffed, but managed to share a fried ice cream for dessert. We were ready for another long walk after lunch.

We headed back to the hotel and took a nap and then got up later and had a little Valentine’s celebration in our room. We had some champagne (sparkling wine) that we had bought from a vineyard in Florida awhile back. It was good and went well with the few cake balls that I brought. Geof got me one of Tory Burch/Leanne Shapton cosmetic bags and some cute lipgloss and a headband from Forever 21. I loved everything! After our celebration, we headed back up to the casino and did a little more gambling. I left with some extra cash in my pocket and that is always a good feeling, since I’m not big into gambling.

Sunday, we got an early start and headed home. There were some outlets on the way back and Geof agreed that we could stop at Clinton Crossings. We went to Coach, Kate Spade and Juicy Couture. I ended up getting a cosmetic bag from Coach to store my makeup for big trips. Now I have a cute one from Geof for my purse and a big one for traveling! Once we got to New Jersey, we went to Houlihan’s for dinner and had a nice time. We got home to 2 very excited dogs and the snow is still here. I was hoping that a lot would have melted! All in all, it was a perfect weekend and I felt the Valentine’s Day love.

Valentine’s weekend recap – part 1

Friday, Geof and I headed to Uncasville, Connecticut for the weekend. We were really supposed to go on Thursday, but the snow trapped us in. We made it up there around 4pm and were able to settle in before getting ready to head over to the Mohegan Sun Casino to see SafetySuit perform in the Wolf Den. We planned this trip a few weeks back when we saw that they were playing there. Geof became a quick fan after we went to the show in Philly and obliged my request to make this a Valentine’s weekend getaway.

Me with the band - Jeremy, Tate, Moi, Doug and Dave

We headed over to the casino in style, as our hotel offered complimentary limo service to and from Mohegan Sun. We arrived around 7:15pm and waited in line for awhile. It was a free show and we were lucky to get seated at a table right up front. That may have had something to do with me pleading with the host and the couple in front of us giving up their seats since they knew I was a huge fan (they heard me talking about how great the band was while we were in line). I thanked them profusely and sent them over some drinks once we finally got settled. We sat with four other people and became friends fast. We were with a couple from New York, Brian and Crystal and a mom and her daughter, Emily and Kristen. Kristen shares my love for the band and we had a great time.

Geof with the guys...I cut Dave off by accident!

SafetySuit came on around 9pm and rocked the house for about an hour. They played all of my favorite songs off their album, Life Left To Go and I was at the edge of the stage the entire time. Geof being the sweet and wonderful husband that he is rocked out from his chair and took some photos for me. The band has so much energy and was incredible, as usual. They performed a song called, You Don’t See Me that is going to be on their next album. This song is amazing! The band stayed after the show (just like they did in Philly) to meet their fans. They were just as nice as before and so down to earth. They’re incredibly modest and all around great guys. When you talk to them you can tell that they love what they do and appreciate their fans. I’ll continue to support these guys as long as they keep making music. You just feel good when you leave the show and that is the only way I can really describe it.

Down from the concert on Friday

After the concert, Geof and I had a late dinner at Bobby’s Burger Palace (Bobby Flay restaurant). It may be one of the best burgers that I have ever had. We played some slots and then headed back to the hotel. From Friday alone, the 4-hour drive was totally worth it! Here is my review from the SafetySuit concert in Philadelphia if you're interested.

P.S. Sorry I’ve been absent this week. With work, the snow and getting ready for this trip, I’ve been swamped. I’ll be around to catch up with everyone as A.S.A.P! There is also still time to enter some of the giveaways below.

Etsy Extravaganza Giveaway – Day 3

Today, I have partnered up with allisonostertag to giveaway an 8x10 photo, 5x7 card and magnet of the magnificent Love Park in Philadelphia that Allison captured. You can also choose which angle you would prefer the photo from. I thought this would be the perfect image to giveaway for Valentine’s Day! Allison takes gorgeous photos around the city and of nature. Some of her work also goes to a good cause, as a donation of $5 is made to the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge each time you buy any animal or refuge photograph.

The next item offered up is a 10oz Sugar Shaker Pure Soy Candle in the scent of your choice from Flower Child 417. Kelly has many scents to choose from and Angel Kisses sounds like something that would smell delightful. The first item offered up is a 2oz Body Butter and 2oz Body Mist in a fragrance of the winner’s choice from Elli Bath Body Beauty. They have so many scents to choose from, even some that are Twilight inspired! Pink Sugar would be my top pick. The body butter is loaded with luxurious Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, and other luscious extracts and oils. Weekend recap

This weekend can be summed up in one word…SNOW! We got 25 inches and it is still a mess around here. We started to dig out last night, but our main driveway and secondary roads are still in bad shape. We haven’t left the house since Friday when we were able to sneak in a quick Target and Blockbuster trip before the storm hit.

My car is under there somewhere

Measurement outside our back door

Some of the snow that drifted was about 5-6 feet high

The weekend has been filled with lots of cooking, catching up on shows, shoveling and the Super Bowl. This afternoon I made cake balls for Valentine’s Day and that has really been it. Skating was obviously cancelled yesterday, but 3 hours of shoveling was quite the workout.

Stay tuned this week for my “Etsy Extravaganza”. I have partnered up with some great Etsy shops and will be doing a different giveaway each day this week. Make sure to come back and enter!
