Britney Spears Circus Concert

Before I begin this review, I want to start by saying that I have always been “Team Britney” and one of her biggest fans. I’ve loved her since “Baby One More Time” and probably always will.

Sunday night, Geof and I saw Britney Spears at The Wachovia Center on her Circus tour. The concert started at 7pm with Kristina DeBarge and One Call as the opening acts (I wish I caught the tour when PCD opened the show). Kristina is most recognized for her song, “Goodbye” (not a fan). She performed that along with two others. Next up was One Call (I’ve never heard of them). I have no clue what songs they did, because we got up and walked around.

Britney’s show started around 8pm. I refer to it as a show and not a concert, since there is no actual live singing. I knew this going in, but didn’t realize how much it was going to bug me until I got there. It started with circus acts and I thought all of the performers were very talented. Some were bizarre, but I guess that is to be expected. The intro began with Perez Hilton on the screen and then Britney came down from above on a ring and kicked things off with the song, “Circus”.

She performed lots of music off the new album, but I was hoping for more of her old stuff. The dancing was decent, but from seeing her music videos and performances through the years, I thought that it should have been stepped up a few notches. In my opinion, it was a lot of basic choreography that seemed robotic at times and for someone who isn’t singing, it should have been a lot better. I also didn’t like that she had very little interaction with the audience. I think she said, “What’s up Philly?” twice and that was it. The last rant about the concert is that it didn’t even seem like she was trying to lip sync to the music very well. It was obvious and distracting.

I did like that there were a lot of costume changes and everything was flashy. I also thought that she looked fantastic. Definitely not the same Britney we saw at last years VMA’s. The production value of the show was high and there wasn’t a minute when something wasn’t going on.

Overall, Geof and I had a nice time. Bottom line: It was entertaining and fun to see Britney, but not worth the $125 per ticket. It truly pains me to say this, but I like to be honest and give my true opinion. I also think that I got myself overly excited and set my expectations too high. Here is a link to the set list if you’re interested.

~WOW! She really does look like she is in incredible shape!
What gorgeous and creative costumes to see! I would probably love it anyway since I have been to so few concerts in my life.
I'm glad you had fun but that is expensive for sure.

Have a wonderful week Jules,
~Melissa :)

This makes me so sad to hear. I've heard from other people also that she just doesn't seem as into it.

I'm still also totally Team Britney!

I'm not a huge Brit fan. If her stuff comes on the radio I may or may not change the station...but I always thought one of her shows might be fun. Just for the experience. Based on your reviews...I'm glad I saved my money this time around!

Never seen her live, but it sounds like you had a good enough time. bummer about having to pay that much for a ticket and not getting a real "sha-bang"! Looks like she is in awesome shape!! hope you have a great week! = )

I saw Britney back on her Dream within a Dream tour. And while it was fun, it does get kind of tired when you can tell she's lipsyncing every song. Although I remember there being at least two ballads that were not lipsyned. You could only tell because they sounded nothing like the album versions while everything else did

That's a bummer that it wasn't quite worth the ticket price but at least it wasn't a total loss. : )

I'm so heartbroken that you didn't leave simply amazed!!! I know what you mean - it was a good time and you had fun but it wasn't crazy out of control awesome Brit! :( I've never seen her in concert I hope that one day I will! :)

Hope you are having a good week other than this!! I have been meaning to ask - have you read any of the books? I know you have been working like a mad woman so I understand if you haven't - just wanted to see if you liked any of them! :)

I saw Britney in Vegas on my b-day with PCD. I was also disappointed in Brit's performance ... I absolutely LOVED PCD!! In fact, hubby and I left Britney's show early so we could go hang out at PCD's after party at Pure (pics on my blog and facebook).
Oh well - I was partying in Vegas, so no big bummer. This was the 3rd concert I had been to of Britney's, and I definitely won't be excited if she comes around again. I still like her music, but she is so not worth the $$$ anymore.

That's a bummer that it didn't live up to expectations! I would have thought it would have been great too! We were so glad to see her "come back" =) Still glad you got to see her and have a good time=)!

Yay for "Team Britney," I'm with you on that one.

I enjoyed her concert but I'm not a good person to review concerts. I haven't been to many concerts. The costume changes were great and I loved the Perez Hilton part.

I liked the concert but I didn't love it. She can still put on a good show but not a concert.

Great pics. Sorry to hear it wasn't everything you hoped it would be. That pic of you and Geof with Brit over your shoulder is too cute!
