Fall fashion trends

Normally I’m not a follower when it comes to fashion and don’t hop right on the bandwagon for something that seems to be a fad. There are certain things that have been out the past few seasons that I’m finally warming up to. I’d describe my everyday style as pretty classic and conservative. I try mixing things up with accessories, handbags and jewelry. To me, those things can make or break an outfit.

Here are some trends that I’m loving:

Booties - these can be really cute worn with leggings/jeggings. I used to loathe these.

Leggings/Jeggings - The right pair makes all the difference. I'm still on the hunt for jeggings and will probably end up getting a pair from the Gap.

Leopard print (accessories) - I love the flats and the cute scarf (I have flats and an infinity scarf similar to both of these looks already). I think they're nice for the season.

Trends I cannot get into:

Over the Knee boots – simply because these would look ridiculous on me. I think they can be really cute on other people.

Plaid shirts – I’ve tried them on and they’re not for me.

Fall florals – floral prints are not my style. I’m so plain!

There are certain things that I don’t think will ever go out of style (at least I hope they don’t) because they’re wardrobe staples of mine:

Scarves
Bootcut jeans
Cardigans
Big sunglasses
Simple black heels

What are some new trends you're loving and what are some of your wardrobe staples?

I was thrilled to be contacted by General Mills to do another giveaway and this time for Halloween!

Fall is my favorite time of the year and Halloween is always so much fun. General Mills has released 3 Limited Edition cereals for the occasion. They are: Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry. The Monster Cereals combine chocolaty, blueberry and strawberry flavored cereal with colorful marshmallow shapes that kids and adults enjoy.

Each serving of the playful, monster-themed cereals are low in fat with no cholesterol or saturated fat. Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry are a good source of calcium, whole grain and nine other essential vitamins and minerals.

Grab your boxes of Monster Cereals before they disappear for another year! They will be available at your local Target from September 26-October 31. You can also visit Grocery Savvy to access fun Monster Cereals photos and desktop backgrounds.

Weekend recap

Friday, Geof and I headed to my old high school for Friday night football! It’s always a great time bumping into old teachers/friends and seeing the Panthers take the field. Back in high school I was on dance team (part of band) and still have serious pride for everything band related. It was actually the “cool” thing to do at my school and I’m a proud band geek. It seriously looks like an army marching out onto the field and they’re up to almost 400 members across band, dance team and flags. Seeing them go out at halftime and in the stands brings back my best memories from high school.

Blast from the past pic of me from Dance Team!

Friday Night Lighs!

Saturday, Geof and I went to the King of Prussia mall and then went to the movies to see Easy A. It was a smart comedy and actually very good. Emma Stone is a great actress and there were a lot of familiar faces in the film. It’s been awhile since a good teen comedy came out and this one gets my vote. After the movies, we headed to Max & Erma’s for dinner. I love that their food is good and not that expensive.

Sunday, we had a quiet day at home and I had a date with the DVR most of the afternoon. My mom came over to visit in the evening and then Geof and I got excited for the return of Dexter!

I also wanted to announce the winner of the True Prep Crest giveaway. There were 74 entries total and I used Random.org to pick the winner. The winner of the giveaway belongs to #4 and that is…Preppy Girls Meets World! Congrats and thank you to everyone that entered. A new General Mills/Target Gift Card giveaway will be up tomorrow.

Sigma Beauty review

Sigma Beauty was kind enough to send me the Sigma Makeup Premium Travel Kit – Sweet in Pink (it also comes in hot pink, black and silver). This kit is seriously a makeup lovers dream come true. It has all of the brushes you would ever need to look fabulous on the go. The kit contains 7 brushes which are individually stored both for the face and eyes.

Packaged very nicely

Inside the kit

The quality is stellar and I was pleasantly surprised that the brushes didn’t shed and were so soft and fluffy. As a bonus to this kit, they also sent me an F60 Foundation Brush that you can add to the kit. Brush cleaning and usage instructions were also included which was much appreciated.

The brushes are comparable to the quality of MAC brushes without the steep price. Honestly after reviewing this kit, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another brand for awhile.

Description of brushes and usage

Bonus F60 Foundation Brush

Here are some more details of the brushes included in the kit:

Large Powder - F30 – This is a great brush for applying loose or compact powder to finish your look.

Duo Fibre - F50 – I am in love with this brush and it’s my favorite one in the kit. It gives a flawless complexion when used to apply liquid foundation. It can also be used for blush, highlighting and loose pigments.

Large Angled Contour - F40 – This brush makes blush application a breeze. It can also be used for contouring and it picks up just the right amount of product.

Eye Shading - E55 – This brush is great for packing shadow onto the eyelid and building color. It makes it easy to go soft or build a more intense color. This can be used with pressed or loose shadows as well as pigments.

Concealer - F70 – This is so nice to have and I don’t know what I did without a concealer brush before. It makes blending concealer so easy and now I don’t have to use my fingers!

Tapered Blending - E40 – This brush is nice for blending eyeshadows and is great for applying color to the crease of your eyelid. You could do a smokey eye easily with this brush.

Pencil - E30 – This brush can be used for multiple purposes. I use it for getting color in the inner and outer corners of my eyelids, but it can also be used to add color to the crease and upper and lower lash lines.

Overall, I was completely satisfied with this kit and it will be coming with me on all trips from here on out. I’ll even use the concealer and duo fibre brushes for everyday! I highly recommend Sigma Beauty after reviewing this kit.

Kit all closed up and ready to pack!

Sigma Beauty sent this free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

Weekend recap

Friday, Geof and I went to Kristen and Sean’s wedding. These are two very dear friends to us and it meant the world to be there and share their special day. The ceremony was outdoors and they were married as the sun was setting. They’re photos are going to be so beautiful and Kris looked absolutely gorgeous. The reception was lovely and the food fantastic. I loved our table, simply because I knew everyone we were sitting with and there was zero awkwardness.

Ladies

Saturday, Geof and I ran some errands and briefly stopped off at a craft fair. I wasn’t really impressed with anything so we headed off to the Greek Festival. Neither of us had ever been to a festival like this and after going, we would definitely do it again. It was at a Greek Orthodox Church and they had a carnival, shopping and lots of Greek food. We had a nice time and the weather was perfect. We got home early in the evening and spent the night relaxing and catching up on the DVR.

Sunday was filled with lots and lots of football. Geof and I made a deal. I don’t know if you or any of your men watch a show called The League, but we have an agreement that Saturdays are my day and we’re calling it “Fantastic Lady Day” (like they do on The League) Sundays are for Geof. The past 2 weeks this has worked out well. I can see us bending the rules every now and then, but for now it’s fun!

True Prep Crest Giveaway

I was contacted by Jessica at Jewelry for a Cause. Their slogan, “Jewelry that sparkles with good intentions” says it all. The ladies at this company have a love for philanthropy and for jewelry. The list of charities and schools they’ve helped is impressive, with many that are close to my heart.

True Prep Crest

This giveaway is for a True Prep Crest! Jewelry for a Cause was featured in the recently published book, True Prep. This Crest is looks exactly like the cover of the book and is a perfect way to sport your love of all things preppy. It is also quite stylish!

Lady Gaga concert

Last night, Geof took my mom and I to see Lady Gaga in concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. As you may remember, this was a belated birthday gift for me and an early one for my mom. My mom may be in her 60’s, but she is a huge fan and so am I. I liked Gaga before she really became what she is today and think she has incredible talent.

Monster Ball!

The morning of the concert was spent rushing around. I went to MAC to have my makeup done for the occasion and then came home and got my outfit together. It felt a little strange since it’s not typically how I dress. My fears were put aside as soon as we arrived at the concert and realized that my outfit was pretty tame compared to some others.

Ready for the concert...big bow headband and all!

We started the night off at one of our favorite restaurants in the city, Jones. It was nice to enjoy dinner before the show and we had a great time. It was also a perfect night in the city weather-wise, so that made it even better. The food at Jones is such a guilty pleasure. I stuck with the usual grilled cheese and tomato soup that I always get when we go there.

We left right from Jones and headed to the show. Geof got us club box tickets and I couldn’t wait to get up there and see the view. We got to our box and you could see everything so perfectly. The opening act was horrible. It was a band called Semi Precious Weapons and they just weren’t for me. I couldn’t wait for it to be over. They played about a half hour and then the stage was set for Gaga.

Me with Geof and my mom

She came on a little after 9 pm and played for a solid 2 hours. This was a show I will never forget. She sang, danced, played the piano and bantered with the audience. It was everything I expected and more. Her voice sounded amazing live and I love how the show told a story of trying to make it to the “Monster Ball”. There were elaborate sets and the show was very creative.

Someone in the crowd threw a Phillies hat onstage and she wore it for a few songs

That is Gaga in the white costume

I couldn't get a good photo of the monster, so I took a little video clip during Paparazzi. She sounds so good!

I heard all of my favorite songs, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Just Dance, Love Game, Pokerface, Monster, So Happy I Could Die, Alejandro, Telephone, and many more. Not only was it great to finally get to see Lady Gaga live, but it was also nice to have a night with two of my favorite people, Geof and my mom!

Weekend recap

Friday, the ladies and I went over to our friend Krystie’s house for a girl’s night. The wine was flowing and the food was delicious. Everyone made a little something and we had a feast. We had ribs, cous cous salad with apples and cranberries, homemade baked beans, cornbread, and s’mores for dessert.

The main reason for going to Krystie’s was so that we could see her baby, Bryce. He is now 5 months old and as adorable as ever. The ladies and I were hogging him most of the night. I didn’t want to put him down. He is such a happy baby!

Baby Bryce!

Saturday, Geof and I went to a benefit at the pool and people were actually swimming, even though the water was freezing. It was nice to see everyone and say goodbye until next summer. After the pool, we came home and got ready to go out with our friend’s Cory and Laura to celebrate Cory’s birthday. We went to The Melting Pot for dinner and it was delicious, as always.

Sunday, we took it easy. We did a little grocery shopping and then came home and watched some football. Geof is in full blown fantasy mode…enough said. I snoozed a few hours on the couch and then my mom came over and made dinner for us. We watched the VMA’s and then the season finale of True Blood. I cannot believe how many storylines were left hanging on True Blood, but I was really happy that Lady Gaga won so many VMA’s! I also have to say that Florence from Florence and The Machine put on an amazing performance. Thank goodness some people can still sing live and sound amazing.

Labor Day weekend recap

Friday, we ran a few errands and then went to Pinocchio’s for dinner. Geof loves when we go there so that he can pay a visit to the beer garden and pick out some fancy beers. I even picked one out that we enjoyed at home growler style called Bethlehem Brew Works Loco Lime Lager. It was really refreshing and the perfect brew to end summer with. Once we got home, we did some weeding in our garden and got it all cleaned up for fall. We spent the night relaxing and it was nice to take it easy.

Saturday, we headed down to Delaware. It was the last day for 20% off at Ulta and Geof wanted to go to Best Buy. Since they were right next to each other, it worked out perfectly. After shopping, we went Jared Jewelers and then further into DE to have a late lunch at Don Pablo’s. It may be a chain, but I love that place. We were stuffed and ended up heading across the way to the mall to walk it off. When we first walked in, there was a sign stating that any minors had to be accompanied by an adult. Every 5 minutes I saw a mall security guard questioning a teenager. I guess they weren’t kidding! They opened a Bare Escentuals Boutique in the mall and it was beautiful. I ended up getting Well Rested and the RareMinerals facial moisturizer and eye cream. So far, I really like both.

Once we got back home, we took the dogs for a long walk. The weather was nice and cool and the dogs loved it. We came home and caught up on all of the TV we missed when we were in SC.

Sunday, I slept in pretty late and spent most the day relaxing. I took another long nap in the afternoon. I guess I was a little more tired than I realized. There is also something about when I feel that crispness in the air like fall is right around the corner. It puts me in hibernation mode.

Monday was nice to have off. We went to Tom Jones (diner) for lunch and then went to the store to get some things so that I could make a spaghetti dinner. We settled in for the rest of the afternoon and then I made dinner and watched Bachelor Pad. I wish I’d ever gotten into that show. It turned out to be not what I thought at all and I cannot stand all of the backstabbing.
