Golden Globes 2012 - Red Carpet

This year the red carpet was impressive with the colors of the night being blush and navy. Most of the stars wore gowns that suited them perfectly and this is one of the first times I’ve had trouble narrowing down my favorites.

Here are the best and worst of the night (according to me):

Best Dressed:

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture

This was by far my favorite gown of the night. From the blush color that suits her skin tone perfectly to the fit and style. She was stunning!

Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen

It's no secret that Reese is one of my favorite celebs. Her style is always on point and she looks beautiful as the lady in red.

Kate Beckinsale in Roberto Cavalli

Kate is always so classy and absolutely gorgeous. My favorite part of this gown is the beautiful chiffon pleat detail at the bottom. Her jewelry and hair also fit the look perfectly.

Zooey Deschanel in Prada

I wouldn’t have liked this dress on anyone else but Zooey. The black and green combo had an almost mod feel to it, which goes so well with Zooey’s overall style. I also had to include a shot of her fantastic Tuxedo nails that she posted on Instagram.

Nicole Richie in Julien Macdonald

Nicole has come a long way with her style and the dress she wore to the awards proves that. The dress shows off her arms and back beautifully and the beading really makes it a standout.

Heidi Klum in Calvin Klein

I couldn’t post this without mentioning Heidi Klum’s turquoise necklace. That’s what I call a statement piece. It made her entire look!

Worst Dressed:

Lea Michele in Marchesa

This looks a figure skating costume gone bad.

Amanda Peet in Marc Jacobs

This dress might make for some cute shabby chic curtains

Piper Perabo in Theyskens’ Theory

This is all wrong from the color to the fact that it's see through

To end on a positive note, I had to include these cuties on the carpet!

Weekend recap

Friday, I took the day off and got a ton of errands done. The weather was crazy and while I was in Target, they lost power. Shopping in partial darkness was interesting to say the least. I came home and starting working on a craft, watched some Grey’s Anatomy, Dateline and read for a little while.

Saturday was my friend Danielle’s shower. She is due with her first baby boy next month and I’m so excited for her and her husband. She is one of my besties from high school and it’s so crazy that she is going to be a mommy. Her shower was beautiful and someone gave her the funniest and most creative gift. It was an after pregnancy survival kit complete with Tucks, wine, Excedrin, earplugs, etc. Everyone really got a kick out of it. Her stepmom also made the cutest cookies. It was great to see her and catch up with my other friend, Brit.

Danielle's Shower...cute cookies!

Saturday night, Kristen came over for craft night. I made some delicious dip (that I’ll share the recipe for tomorrow) and we enjoyed some Sam Adams Noble Pils. We decided to make yarn wreaths. They turned out really cute, but it was a lot of work (tutorial to come). The whole night was a blast and anytime spent with Kristen is always the best. We laughed until 3 in the morning. It was some much needed girl time.

Sunday I bummed around the house. I finally watched (500) Days of Summer. If you haven’t seen this yet, watch it. It was so good even down to the songs used in the film. I really like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. This is one I’ll watch again and again.

A must-see

My mom came over for Oscar night and I made us chili and cornbread for dinner. It was a wonderful weekend!

Oscar Fashion 2011

Overall, I was impressed with the fashion at this year’s Academy Awards. I also loved the opening and think that Anne Hathaway and James Franco did an excellent job as hosts. Natalie Portman taking home the Oscar for Best Actress was a great moment and I’ve now realized that I need to see The King’s Speech.

Onto the fashion:

Best Dressed

Reese Witherspoon in Giorgio Armani Privé

Sleek and chic in black and white. She also gets my vote for best hair.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein Collection

This dress fit her like a glove and I loved that she didn’t wear any jewelry. The gown spoke for itself.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection
Glowing in gold. I don’t think anyone else could pull this gown off as well as she did. Gorgeous.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab

Lavender and lace elegance. I think she is beautiful.

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

Red seemed to rule the red carpet and this was the first of many gowns (and even a tux). She looked beautiful all night long.

Worst Dressed

Melissa Leo in Marc Bouwer

This looked like a bad doily (and her speech was huge turnoff).

Nicole Kidman in Dior

I love her, but not this dress

Helena Bonham Carter in Colleen Atwood

She was celebrating film over fashion. Fine, but I don’t like it.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture

Beautiful color, I just wasn’t a fan of the structure.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

The wine color and lace was very pretty. The sheerness I didn’t like.

Cee Lo Green

A cross between a Muppet and a Peacock...wow. Loved that Gwyneth came out to sing!

Lady Gaga

She was having an egg-cellent adventure. Was it over the top? Yes. Do I still love her? Always.

Weekend recap & Golden Globes Fashion

Friday, Geof and I had a quiet night in and got caught up on the DVR with some good old Jersey Shore. I also did a top to bottom cleaning of the house and Geof helped with laundry. We were so productive.

Saturday we had a ton of errands to run and got some grocery shopping done too. I made a quick trip to Michael’s and Jo-Ann Fabrics to get supplies for not one, but two craft projects. We came home and I got to crafting. I’ll have to share how they turned out later in the week.

Sunday we watched football on and off while I put the finishing touches on my projects. My mom came over in the evening and I made grilled cheese and tomato soup for everyone. We watched the globes and had a cozy night in.

As I do every year, here are my favorite fashion picks from the night. This year it was all about the black dress, ruffles and sparkle. I also noticed a lot of ladies rocking emerald green. Overall, I think there were more hits than misses. Here are my picks for best dressed:

Olivia Wilde

This was my favorite of the night. She sparkled in Marchesa. Her hair and makeup was also flawless.

Claire Danes

She looked simple and elegant in that Calvin Klein Collection gown. Her body is also incredible.

Carrie Underwood

Always at the top of my list for best dressed. Her Badgley Mischka gown was glistening and absolutely gorgeous.

Natalie Portman

She was glowing in Viktor & Rolf. The pink and red combination was pretty and I thought this was a perfect gown for her growing baby bump.

Eva Longoria

Pure Hollywood glamour. Eva looked fantastic in that black Zac Posen gown. From the cap sleeve to the sparkling brooch...fashion perfection.

Weekend recap

Friday, the ladies and I went over to our friend Krystie’s house for a girl’s night. The wine was flowing and the food was delicious. Everyone made a little something and we had a feast. We had ribs, cous cous salad with apples and cranberries, homemade baked beans, cornbread, and s’mores for dessert.

The main reason for going to Krystie’s was so that we could see her baby, Bryce. He is now 5 months old and as adorable as ever. The ladies and I were hogging him most of the night. I didn’t want to put him down. He is such a happy baby!

Baby Bryce!

Saturday, Geof and I went to a benefit at the pool and people were actually swimming, even though the water was freezing. It was nice to see everyone and say goodbye until next summer. After the pool, we came home and got ready to go out with our friend’s Cory and Laura to celebrate Cory’s birthday. We went to The Melting Pot for dinner and it was delicious, as always.

Laura and Cory and Geof and I...gotta love the steam from the pot

Sunday, we took it easy. We did a little grocery shopping and then came home and watched some football. Geof is in full blown fantasy mode…enough said. I snoozed a few hours on the couch and then my mom came over and made dinner for us. We watched the VMA’s and then the season finale of True Blood. I cannot believe how many storylines were left hanging on True Blood, but I was really happy that Lady Gaga won so many VMA’s! I also have to say that Florence from Florence and The Machine put on an amazing performance. Thank goodness some people can still sing live and sound amazing.
