Confessions of a Shopaholic

I just finished reading Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella and I would say that it was a light, fun read. I did like it and laughed out loud in some parts, but I thought it was a little predictable, almost like watching a chick flick where you know what you’re getting yourself into. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I would rate it as a great summer read, nothing more and nothing less.

I really liked the fact that Rebecca Bloomwood worked in the world of finance, but had so much trouble managing her own money. There were definitely certain parts of the book I could relate to and felt embarrassed for her. I think my favorite was when she would say that if she gets this certain outfit or accessory, “she’ll be known as the girl with the green scarf”, or the girl with “this” or “that”. It almost seemed as if buying certain tangibles would make her life complete. I thought it was funny only because I think that if I get a certain handbag, I’ll be so happy. And I am, until the next thing comes along!

I never ended up seeing the movie that was made from the book, but I look forward to watching it on DVD. From what I have heard, the movie is a lot different from the book. I guess I will find out soon.

There are so many books on my must read list and my question to you is, are the other books in the Shopaholic series worth reading? Before I read the Twilight books, I only used to read magazines. So I look forward to reading lots this summer with this new found hobby!

I loved all of the Shopaholic books, they were such a great light summer read. Perfect for the pool!

Also, if you like these books, you may like books written by Emily Giffin, they are fun light reads as well!

Hey! I've read all 5 Shopaholic books & they are really cute. But, after I finished those I read the Twilight series & those books just don't hold a candle to Twilight! Ha ;) The movie is good, but didn't follow the book enough for my liking. Oh well!

If you like chick lit, check http://chicklitbooks.com/ for recs.
There's a whole Shopaholic series if you want to read more about Rebbecca.
I also like Jane Green's books too.

I loved all of these books and waited for each new one to come out with such impatience!!

I'm really excited you are getting into them. And you should totally see the movie - it isn't the same as the book - but Isla is super cute in it - and it's a fun watch!

LOVE that book, all of the Shopaholic books are fun! I haven't seen the movie yet either, I hear it's different than the books but still want to see it. :)

I liked The Undomestic Goddess book by her too. It was also a light, fun read. I agree with MG that Emily Giffin is great chick lit author. Start with Something Borrowed- it's the first book.

I loved the entire Shopaholic series. I haven't seen the movie yet, either. I think I was afraid it would ruin the book, but who knows.. I might watch it.

I can not wait until that comes out on DVD! I have the book, but I never got into it. Right now I am reading Paula Deen's book. Did you read a lot when you were younger? I did, but now I find it hard to make the time. I hope that doesn't mean I'm getting old...:(

I am a huge Shopaholic fan but I didn't read them - I listened to them. I recommend trying out the next book of the series on audiotape. The narrator is PERFECT and utterly hilarious. For me, when I pick out an audiobook, the narrator either makes or breaks it and this narrator makes it. xoxo

I heard the book was great, but that the movie was kind of awful. You'll have to let us know what you think when you see the movie.

I am gearing up to read "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell". I hope I like it though because the book is about a real d'bag.

I listened to the whole Shopaholic series on audiobook and really liked it. Like you said, it can be somewhat predictable, but they are fun, light reads. I would definitely recommend!

Great review! I loved the first book. But could, literally barley read the last 2 or 3. It was so stupid and silly as some points that it was painful. I was so incredibly annoyed and bored I was just skipping through pages to get it over with.

I love Something Borrowed and anything else by Emily Giffin because they are extremely entertaining chick lits, but she is an amazing and intelligent writer. I also like Lauren Weisberger who wrote The Devil Wears Prada, same thing... fun but smart.

I adore the Shopaholic series!! When I first read Confessions I felt like I was reading my autobiography (well, at least the shopping parts!). The whole series is pretty predictable but they are fun light reads...perfect for summer days by the pool!

I loved the shopaholic books, and would say to keep reading. They do all have the same easy feel to them, but overall they get better throughout the series.
