Weekend recap & Oscar fashion

Friday, Geof and I ran some errands and then went to Media to have dinner at Pinocchio’s (best thin crust pizza ever!). This place also brings back such great memories from high school and was the place to be after football games. After dinner, we went to Trader Joe’s and stocked up on some groceries. I forgot how much I love that place. We got a ton of stuff, but I cannot wait to try the edamame hummus. Once we got home, I started getting caught up on Idol. I have a few favorites, but it just seems a little painful to get through this season. I think this may be the last one for me.

Saturday, we ran to Marshall’s and got some workout clothes and then went to the movies to see Shutter Island. We were also able to sneak in some warm soft pretzels from the Philadelphia Pretzel Factory, so that was a bonus. It was such a great movie and not at all what I was expecting. I think Leonardo DiCaprio did a great job in it and the way Scorsese shoots his films is incredible. It looked like something from another world. I love a movie that makes you think and this definitely did that. After the movie, we ran to Old Navy and got a few things for spring.

Got the top in turquoise and maxi dress in navy blue!

Sunday, we did a deep clean on the house and it felt really good. I watched a movie called Timber Falls and it was a predictable, but decent horror flick. My mom came over later to watch the Oscars and Geof made dinner for all of us. Geof and I also took the dogs for a long walk right before the awards, since the weather was mild this weekend. It’s so nice to see the snow melting and to have seen the sun.

On another note, I thought the Academy Awards were excellent and some of the leading ladies looked absolutely gorgeous and were much more impressive than at the Golden Globes. Neil Patrick Harris did a great job with the opening and Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did not disappoint. The tribute to John Hughes (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Weird Science are 2 of my favorite 80’s movies) and horror montage was also very well done. I also loved how the fellow actors got up and spoke on a personal level about the nominees for best actor and actress.

Best Dressed 2010
Cameron Diaz was glowing and looked beautiful in this Oscar de la Renta gown

Sandra Bullock almost looked like an Oscar in this gorgeous Marchesa gown

I didn't see Demi during the show, but she looked glam on the red carpet in this Versace gown

Worst Dressed 2010
This Chanel gown looked kind of like a pineapple curtain on SJP. Not a fan of the hair either.

Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham. It didn't look like it fit her well and the top looks like lingerie. It's a shame because from the waist down the dress is pretty.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy couture. This one I actually like from the waist up. The bottom looks like some sort of tissue paper art project.

Totally agree re: Cameron and SJP's gowns. I actually really liked Miley's gown because I think it suited her frame and youth.

I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were a little flat. I loved Neil Patrick Harris's intro though. I think he should have hosted.

hated demi moores dress. Loved cameron diaz's dress...I normally dislike her a great deal, but she looked great. Loved sandra dress, very pretty. Miley's dress was so weird and she was hunched over the whole time like she couldnt stnad up straight! what was the deal with that? And sjp's dress was horrible, I agree. lol.

I agree with your fashion choices for the Oscars! I found the show itself sooooo boring, but I did enjoy NPH's opening and seeing who won the big awards!

Love the stuff you got from Old Navy! I would totally buy that tank if I didn't have 500 others already haha!

too funny, our lists have the same people on them!!!! I hated Sarah Jessica Parker's dress! ugh.

I thought Steve and Alec were ok...some awkwardness.

I also loved the actors speeches about the nominees. So touching.

I agree about Miley. It was almost like she was missing something, like a top? LOL

Wish I could find good pizza out by me. I got spoiled growing up in Philly. They burbs are lacking in the pizza department.

We saw Shutter Island too! I totally didn't see that twist coming. I didn't really care for the music though...

I loved the "places" to go after football games. We would go to the Friendly's right by the high school.

I was not so impressed with the gowns...I do agree that Sandra was stunning.

OK- so you're the first one who thinks like me (ha!) and voted a no to SJP. I do not think she is attractive in the least. And I agree on Sandra and Cameron - thumbs up.

I really enjoyed Shutter Island. Up until the end I had NO CLUE what was going on..haha!
You best/worst are the same ones I would pick.
Cameron Diaz was by far my favorite of the night. I just adore her!
Ummm..did you see Miley's mom on the red carpet? Can we say trashy?!?!

I'm glad you posted about edamame hummus because I have a trip planned to Trader Joe's over my spring break (sadly, it's about 25 minutes away). I am totally snapping some of that up! I didn't hate SJP's dress but I thought a lot of other women looked better!

We must be on the same wavelength. I bought that tank top and that top at Old Navy recently! I also have plans to go back tomorrow for BOTH of those dresses, once I got a coupon for them in my email! Hysterical!

We must just both have excellent taste! LOL!

I loved Sandra. I actually like Miley's dress just not on her. It was a bit too much for her young age.

Super cute clothes! I just picked up stuff from Target. Love cheap items =)
