Elf on the Shelf

I heard about this on the local radio show this morning and I thought it was pretty funny. There is a website for this thing called, “Elf on the Shelf”. I know in my house growing up whenever Christmas was getting close, my mom used to always say things like, “Better be careful, Santa’s watching” or “Santa knows who’s been naughty or nice”. This “Elf” takes it to a whole new level.
Basically it comes in a box from the company saying it’s from the North Pole and has an Elf, activity book, etc. You’re supposed to explain to your child that this Elf is a scout sent by Santa and he reports back every night if you’ve been good or bad.
I think it’s funny and brilliant, others might find it offensive. I don’t have children yet, but I bet this would be a great way to keep them well-behaved in the months leading up to Christmas.
Here is one more invention I wish I thought of!

OMG, My mom had one of those. I don't think she knew what it was. I think she thought it was a cheeky elf. But it sat on our mantel every year. Oh, I have to dig that out!

Too funny, Linda! I never knew these things existed. I could see a child really liking it or being totally freaked out by it.

It does look like a cheeky elf!

Freaking hilarious!!! I love it. That would have worked brilliantly if my parents had had that when I was young.

Hi Jules, This is such a coincidence. My sister just bought one for my new nephew Noah this past weekend. She explained the whole thing to me. It sounds so cute! Reminds me a little bit of the Flat Stanley idea.
Thanks so much for stopping by new blog!
You're always welcome. ~Melissa :)
